An Immigrant from Kingsvale Jamaica, Vinroy Reid came to The United States with an open mind and an entrepreneurial spirit. In just under thirty years, he has started and grown several very successful small businesses and has been devoted to serving his community on the East Side of Charlotte. Vinroy started out as a carpenter and worked his way up to be a General Contractor. He provides employment for district 5 residents with his construction company VR King Construction.

Vinroy stands for family values as he is part of a very large and diverse family. His close-knit family provided the inspiration for Mama’s Caribbean Restaurant. A popular neighborhood gathering spot on historic Central Avenue, Mama’s embodies Vinroy’s love of diversity and community. Over the past three decades Vinroy has worked tirelessly to contribute to the development of Charlotte’s East Side

He advocates for issues important to the community on his radio and television shows “The Caribbean Connection”. He is a voice for the people. He currently serves on the Charlotte Business Inclusion Advisory Committee and is a founding member of the African Caribbean Political Action Committee. An active member of the Democratic Party, Vinroy was elected to the North Carolina State Executive Committee, representing Mecklenburg County.

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and members of the Charlotte International Cabinet (CIC) presented Mr. Reid with the CIC International Entrepreneur Award during the 2021 Annual Mayor’s International Community Awards (MICA).

He values education and economic opportunity. Reid will focus on issues such as: Living wages for Seniors, Veterans and working families. Economic Opportunity for business owners, entrepreneurs, and grad-students. Affordable Housing with Equity. He wants to bring his business acumen and love of community to the Charlotte City Council.
